China’s 21st Century Urbanization Development Strategy Forum

China’s 21st Century Urbanization Development Strategy Forum, co-sponsored by People’s Daily (Oversea Edition) and China Society for Strategy and Management Research (CSSM), co-organized by the International Cooperation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission, China Mayor Association, and Hong Kong Shui On Land Ltd., Company, will be held in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse from 17th to the 19th of Feruary2006.

China is now engaging in a large-scale process of industrialization and urbanization. Along with the high speed of economic and social development a series of problematic issues need to be addressed, considered and ultimately resolved. One recommendation in the “11th five-year plan” for promoting national economy and social development put forward in the recently finished 5th Plenary Session of the Sixteenth Congress of the Chinese Communist Party require a policy of coordinated development among large-, medium- and small-scale cities and small towns, in order to boost the well-being of townization, in line with the principles of gradual, orderly process, land saving, intensive development and reasonable layout. This serves as clear reflection and action of the 4th generation of Chinese Leaders on the development of urbanization in China. The changeover from urbanization to townization needs to be seen as an important strategic adjustment that is based upon the development needs of Chinese cities.

Top actual difficult issues concerning townization in China, its way of development, its path selection, will be the focal points of this forum. The aim is to learn from previous domestic and international experiences and further promote the healthy development of townization in China.

Following accomplishments in this regard, the organizing committee of this forum is cordially inviting you to join. Many renowned high-ranking officials, experts in related fields, city-level leaders and well-known entrepreneurs, domestic and international will be present to this forum. Your suggestions and recommendations will be more than welcomed.
